through the lens 01

We finally did it! Our very first show "through the lens" is a wrap and you can watch it right here, right now.

As announced, we decided to discuss Sony. In the course of our 20min session we talk about a variety of things:

Starting from a quick recap of where Sony came from and where they are now, we go on to discuss the new CEO's "One Sony" strategy. After a look at and an evaluation of Sony's current portfolio, we then go on to analyse whether Sony's core competencies are indeed in Imaging, Gaming and Mobile as announced by Kazuo Hirai or whether these lack substance. Finally we wrap it up by giving a quick outlook on what may lie ahead of Sony and what future steps might prove valuable.

As always we work and research to our best knowledge and do not claim any sort of untouchability of what we say. Therefore please feel free to comment and discuss with us.

Thanks for the comment. I agree, I think their hardware specs are really good, but in the UI area they are still lacking. I think appointing a person/ manager to be in charge of UI might be a good move for the future to improve in that area.

I think Sony's problems don't really stem from a lack of innovation. The biggest issues in my view is that they were too focused on coming out with the latest and greatest in terms of technology and specs, instead of designing for the user and what the customer was asking for. The company was full of engineers eager to showcase their technological creativity and skills. They innovated, but not in the always in the direction the market was going. Great first show, a very interesting topic.
